St Ninian’s Thirtieth Anniversary Celebrations

Sunday the 4th November saw St Ninian’s Church celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the consecration of the new building in style! The church was packed with friends old and new as Bishop Mark led us in a service of thanksgiving. There was a wonderful atmosphere as people greeted each other and shared memories of the building of the new church and hall. Val Dunford spoke movingly about the place of St Ninian’s in the community and in her own life, echoing the feeling of many present. The Bishop reminded the congregation of the mission and legacy of St Ninian and encouraged us to go out and be like him in our witness and service. There was joyful singing and prayers led by Reverend Loma Balfour. The Bishop also dedicated a new set of red vestments, kindly given to the church by Val Dunford in memory of her uncle Robin Allport who was a Lay reader in the Church of England for over 50 years
It would not be St Ninian’s without wonderful hospitality and there was sumptuous afternoon tea afterwards and much mingling of friends. It was especially good to see many of those who regularly attend the Teas, Tales and Treats coming along to join in the celebration. As we look to the future we pray for God’s wisdom and love as we seek to reach out into the community that he has called us to serve.
The words of Dag Hammarskjold are a fitting reminder of our past and of our vision as we look to the future:
“For all that has been, thanks. For all that will be, yes.”
